Fly Tying Clinic

AFAC Fly Tying Clinic

Have you been wondering about fly tying? What’s it about, how to get started, or how to take your fly tying practice to the next level.

If you are novice level or completely new to fly tying, or if you have been tying flys for years and now wish to have a refresher and learn best-practice methods from expert tyers, this course is not to be missed.

Your Instructors

Yoshi Nakagawa

Yoshi has been passionately involved in the New Zealand fly fishing scene at various professional levels for many years. As a past competitive national champion and now a fly fishing guide and expert fly tyer Yoshi has a wealth of experience at effective and efficient methods of catching educated and wary trout in New Zealand’s best waters. He has consciously refined his fly tying to be highly effective at fooling large (particularly Brown) trout in small streams.

Yoshi has made time in his busy schedule to be our first instructor in this program.

Stephen Kerr

Steve is well known and loved by many members of AFAC for his fly tying. His fly tying classes have benefited many club tyers in the past, and he has regularly given demonstrations on club nights, with a box of his prized flys raffled for the benefit of AFAC.

Steve is highly regarded as one of New Zealand’s leading fly tyers. Specialising in demonstration and display flys worthy of framing as examples for tyers at any level to aspire to. His flys are coveted and sort after, and he will be teaching you his methods.
