Day trip to the Waipa River

The next club trip will be a day trip to the Waipa River in the Waikato.

Those who were planning to go on this trip last year will remember that the bad weather caused us to cancel at the last minute which was rather bad luck for John and Christine Lauer who had already made their way down there.

It’s about a 2.5 hours’ drive to the river, and while we are proposing a day trip there may be some who would like to stay over and fish on Sunday as well. If so, there is good accommodation available in Otorohanga and we will leave it to those that want the extra day to make their own arrangements.

From Otorohanga take Otiwa Road and travel a fair way past the Otiwa school and we will meet at the reserve by the river. We will have the AFAC sign displayed so that the meeting place will be obvious.

Meeting Time

9.00am sounds about right. That means leaving about 7.30am.

There will be those that have fished this area before so there is plenty of help available for the new members.

A good description of the river and the surrounding area comes up if you Google Waipa River Otorohanga. It describes the river, the fish and even the flies to use.
There is of course no cost to a day trip, just turn up. But if we know who is coming, we can often arrange car sharing to make it easier for everyone. So, fill in the form or let me know if you are planning to be with us.
